Ernest "Ernie" I. Thompson

Ernest I. "Ernie" Thompson, 95, of Cambridge, died Wednesday (March 25, 2015) at Cambridge Healthcare of Cambridge. He was born March 22, 1920, in Honaker VA, son of the late Otis and Rose Thompson. Mr. Thompson was the owner of American Typewriter Company for twenty-five years, retiring in 1994. He attended trade schools for typewriters and calculators and specialized in typewriter sales and service. He also worked as a Red Coat (Gate 16) at OSU Stadium for 25 years, and loved the Buckeyes. He was a member of the American Legion Post 62 of Sun City, Ariz. Mr. Thompson was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served during World War II. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Mitchel; an infant daughter; three sisters, Buelah (Bill) Hart, Virginia, and Mildred (Wendell) McKee; three brothers, Bishard, Paul, and Vernie; a step-daughter, Alison Gilchrist; and four nephews, Garney, Carl, James, and Earl. He is survived by his wife, T. Jeanine (Bucey) Thompson, whom he married June 12, 1993; three daughters, Sarah (Tom) Sauvageot, Pat (Randy) Herrick, and Wendi (David) Troy; a son, Brian (Sandy) Thompson; a step-daughter, Jennifer (Mark) Eyen; a step-son, Jay Dye; seven granddaughters, Dena Gilchrist, Natalie Thompson, Emily Thompson, Ella Troy, Sophia Troy, Shawn Wade, and Heather Sharrer; eight grandsons, Dr. Chad Herrick, Mike Sauvageot, Walker Troy, Luke Thompson, Roman Thompson, Gregory Eyen, Zachary Dye, and Anthony Dye; three nephews, Dean (Sandy) Thompson, Steve (Debbie) McKee, and Wally (Laverna) Baker; and a niece, Marilyn (Craig) Robertson; one son in law, Dale Gilchrist, and a sister in law, Karen (John) Enos. Visitation will be held Monday (April 6, 2015) from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at St. Benedict Catholic Church, Cambridge, where a memorial service will follow at 2 p.m.with Father Robert Borer officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Cambridge, with military graveside honors conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council.
