Ernest "Bill" William Clayton, 75, of Salesville, entered into rest at his home on Monday (February 23, 2009). He was born on July 17, 1933 in Wall Township NJ, son of the late Ernest Post Clayton and Agnes M. (Allen) Clayton. Mr. Clayton had previously operated a dairy farm in the Mt. Vernon area. Later on, he was also a driller and heavy equipment operator for R&F Coal for many years. Mr. Clayton was a very close friend with the Amish community. He ran a shuttle service for many of them and transported eleven children to & from school every day. He attended Mt. Zion Church in Quaker City. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Catherine (Dodson) Clayton, who passed away on August 12, 2005. They were married on June 2, 1962. He is survived by a son, Tom (& Kerry) Clayton of Cambridge; a daughter, Cathy A. Clayton of Salesville; three brothers, Allen Jerome (& Marie) Clayton of Bricktown NJ, Alvie F. Clayton of Maryland and Harry N. (& Donette) Clayton of Bricktown NJ; eight grandchildren, Heather M. Clayton, Kala M. Clayton, Chevy T. Clayton, Amanda D. Clayton, Austin T. Clayton, Allen R. Sherry, Steven Ancell and Samantha Lynn Clayton; a great-grandchild, Paden Bryce Johnson; and many friends & neighbors. Family and friends may call on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Quaker City, where services will be held on Friday (February 27, 2009) at 11 a.m. with Pastor Jeff Eschbaugh officiating. Burial will be at Northwood Cemetery, Cambridge.
