Everette Nelson

February 14, 1933 — January 4, 2023

Quaker City

Everette Nelson, age 89, of Quaker City, OH peacefully passed away Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at home surrounded by family.  A resident of Quaker City since 1994, he was the son of the late Orvin and Mary (Whitt) Nelson.  Everette was a long-time member of Salt Fork Baptist Church.

Born on February 14, 1933, in Bearwallow, Virginia, Everette was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Ola Gay (Cooper) Nelson.  He was also preceded in death by four brothers: Willis, Clayton, Dewey and Leslie Nelson and three sisters, Beulah Nelson, Ritta Whitt, and Betty Young.

Daddy to Pamela Portnick of Quaker City and Roxanna (Alan) Sielski of Woodland Hills, CA; brother to June (Bob) Crawford of Cincinnati, OH, Violet (Ted) Fisher of Jonesborough, TN, Charlie (Leona) Nelson of Mineral Wells, WV and Homer (Nancy) Nelson of Pounding Mill, VA; Papaw to Jackie (John) Adkins and Stephanie (Bob) Portnick both of Cambridge, Kayla Taylor of Northfield, OH and Jared Sielski of Woodland Hills, CA; Great-Papaw to Tate Portnick, John-John and Braiden Adkins and Dallas Taylor.  Friend to many.

Everette was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing.  Several "trophies" adorn the walls of his home, his heaven on earth, sitting on 39 acres in Quaker City.  He was happiest sitting on the front porch watching the wildlife go by.

His "Everetteisms" will greatly be missed.  "How do you feel today?" "With my hands".  "How did you sleep last night?" "With my eyes closed."  "How are you today?" "Better.  Better than what I don't know."  His favorite was when a little kid would ask what happened to his finger (he was missing half the index finger on his right hand which he lost in a snowblower accident) but his answer was always "I was picking my nose and a booger bit it off" just to see their reaction.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 10, 2023, from 6 to 8 P.M. and Wednesday, January 11, 2023, from 10 A.M. until the time of services at 12 Noon at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, with Pastor Brian Hollis officiating. Burial will be at Guernsey Memory Gardens, Cambridge.
