Florence Starr, 88, of Cambridge, died Wednesday (September 2, 2009) at her home. She was born July 4, 1921 in Barnesville, daughter of the late Frank Carter and Doris (Davis) Carter. She married Arthur "Bill" Starr on October 27, 1945. Mrs. Starr retired in 1983 from Kresge's of Cambridge. She was a member of the Middlebourne United Methodist Church and a member of United Methodist Women. She was a 1939 graduate of Old Washington High School. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur "Bill" Starr, who died January 18, 2005; three brothers, Frank Jr., Norman and infant Charles; two sisters, Leanna Chambers and infant Irene; and a great-grandchild, Matthew Taylor. She is survived by two sons, Jerry (& Martha) Starr of Cambridge and Dennis (& Judy) Starr of Cambridge; two brothers, Robert Carter of Dayton and Paul (& Edith) Carter of Middlebourne; a sister, Alberta Carpenter of Quaker City; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Family and friends may call on Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where services will be held Saturday (September 5, 2009) at 11 a.m. with Rev. Beth Mansperger officiating. Burial will be at Guernsey Memory Gardens, Cambridge. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Middlebourne United Methodist Church.
