Floyd E. "Bud" Miller, 95, of Quaker City, died Monday (October 12, 2020) at Southeastern Med, Cambridge.
He was born June 17, 1925 in Quaker City, son of the late Andrew Miller and Pearl (Conner) Miller.
When he died, Mr. Miller was the oldest living resident of Quaker City.
A 1943 graduate of Quaker City High School, Mr. Miller retired after twenty-five years with the Quaker City Post Office, where he had served as postmaster.
He was a member of the Quaker City Christian Church. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion, Earl Conner Post #337 in Quaker City and a lifetime member of the Quaker City Masonic Lodge.
He loved sports and especially enjoyed cheering on The Ohio State Buckeyes football team and the Cincinnati Reds.
Mr. Miller was a US Army veteran, having served during WWII in the First Armored Division under General George S. Patton. He received a Purple Heart for his distinguished service to his country.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of seventy years, Hilda L. (Huntsman) Miller, who died August 17, 2016. They were married February 23, 1946. Also deceased is a brother, John R. Miller.
He is survived by his son, James (Cheryl) Miller of Bellaire; two grandchildren, Bryan (Holly) Miller and Christy (Derek) Boyd; and seven great-grandchildren, Corey Miller, Hayley Miller, Madison Miller, Laken Miller, Adah Boyd, Layla Boyd, and Jude Boyd.
A graveside service will be held Saturday (October 17, 2020) at 11 a.m. at Friends Cemetery, Quaker City, with Pastor Alyson Farmer officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorial contributions be made to the Quaker City Fire Department, PO Box 326, Quaker City OH 43773.
