Floyd Hayes "Sam" Cornelius passed away May 5, 2024.
He was born on February 26, 1930, in Boden, the son of the late Robert Henry Cornelius and Anna Jane (Boyd) Cornelius. He attended grade school at Boden and graduated from Otsego High School in 1947.
Sam drove truck for many years, and this was his life's work. At age 15, during World War II, he was driving truck with his dad.
In 1948, he met Evelyn Brickles, and they married on October 16, 1949. They moved into their home in Boden where they still live today. After retirement, they did spend some time in Florida.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a son- in- law, Bill McCulloch; daughter- in- law, Judy Cornelius; granddaughter, Jenny Cornelius; great- grandson, Maliki Rhode; great- granddaughter, Madalyn Cornelius; sister Neva Atha; and sister and brother- in- law, Lela and Richard Carter.
Surviving is his wife of 74 years, Evelyn Eleanor Cornelius, five children, Mary Ann McCulloch, Nancy (& Gale) Bates, Charles Cornelius, Samuel (& Peggy) Cornelius, and Robert Cornelius; six grandchildren, Brad (& Krissy) McCulloch, Darren McCulloch, Kelly (& Brad Robinson) Rohde, Allen (& Tonga Romine) Cornelius, Brandon Cornelius, and Cameron Cornelius; ten great- grandchildren, two nephews and three nieces and many friends.
Sam is a member and attended Otsego United Methodist Church and also a member of the Guernsey County Senior Citizen Center.
Sam's wish was to be cremated but there will be a funeral service on Monday, May 13, 2024, at 3pm at Thorn- Black Funeral Home with Dail Parrish officiating.
