Frank M. Stroud Sr.

Frank M. Stroud Sr., 88, of Cambridge, died Monday (January 9, 2012) at his home He was born April 14, 1923 in Cambridge, son of the late Frank Stroud and Agnes (Brislen) Stroud. Mr. Stroud retired after thirty-two years of service at the former Cambridge State Hospital, where he had been a supervisor. He was a member of Christ Our Light Parish. Mr. Stroud was a US Navy veteran, having served on the Battleship Mississippi during WWII as a chief gunner's mate. He was a life member of the VFW Post 2901. He attended Cambridge High School up until the time he left for military service. Mr. Stroud was also an umpire for high school baseball and softball games. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, and his many trips to Caesar's in Atlantic City. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who adored his family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert, John, and Gary; and a sister, Elaine Taylor. He is survived by his wife, Arnette (Kenworthy) Stroud, whom he married May 9, 1944; a son, Frank Stroud of Cambridge; a daughter, Sharon (& John) Hickman of Old Washington; six grandchildren, Toni Fisher of St. Clairsville, Lori (& Darwin) Christman of Quaker City, Sandy (& Chris) Roof of Cambridge, Frank M. (& Miranda) Stroud II of Johnstown, Robyn (& Jeremy) Morrow of Cambridge, and Doug Stroud of Cambridge; ten great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; two brothers-in-law, Herb (& Bonnie) Kenworthy of Cambridge and Kenny (& Mary) Kenworthy of Cambridge; three sisters-in-law, Barb, Rosie, and Shirley Stroud; several nieces & nephews; and special friends, The Kathi Williams family and Mitch & Connie Giesey. Family and friends may call on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at St. Benedict Catholic Church, Cambridge. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday (January 17, 2012) at 10:30 a.m. at St. Benedict Catholic Church, Cambridge, with Father Robert Borer officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Cambridge with military graveside services conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Frank's name may be made to one of the following organizations: 1) Christ Our Light Parish, 701 Gomber Avenue, Cambridge OH 43725; or 2) Hospice of Guernsey Inc., PO Box 1165, Cambridge OH 43725.
