Franklin R. Joy, 79, of Byesville passed away Monday (September 24, 2012) at Summit Acres Nursing Home in Caldwell. He was born November 8, 1932 in Canton and was the son of the late George Rothacker and Faye Irene (Lee) Joy. Mr. Joy was a retired strip miner. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War, a life member of Byesville V.F.W., enjoyed working on lawnmowers and he completed his schooling on small engines. He also enjoyed fishing, bowling, pool and watching football. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his second wife Betty Lou (Cropper) Joy; two brothers and one sister. He is survived by four sons, Timothy (Martha) Joy of Pleasant City, Randy (Donna) Joy of Geneva, Jon (Michelle) Joy of Geneva, and Shane (Michelle) Joy of Geneva on the Lake; two daughters, Pamela Henry of Byesville and Kim Neff (Bryan) Eagle of Cambridge; one brother George (Delores "Shorty") of Canton; twenty grandchildren; numerous great and great great grandchildren and nieces and nephews; mother of his children Delores Cottrell of Byesville. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge where services will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday with Jim Gibson officiating. Burial will be in Guernsey Memory Gardens with military services conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council.
