Frederick James Sharp, 87, of Quaker City, died Sunday (April 3, 2011) at the Cambridge Health & Rehabilitation Center. He was born May 20, 1923 in Sugar Grove (near Lancaster), son of the late Frederick Walker Sharp and Charlotta L. (Moffit) Sharp. Mr. Sharp was a retired train conductor for the NKP and NS Railroads, having worked for twenty-three years. He was a graduate of Berne Union High School in Sugar Grove and attended The Ohio State University. He was a member of the Moose Lodge of Bellevue OH and the VFW of North Pole AK. He was director of the Northeast American Buffalo Association. Mr. Sharp was a US Marine Corps veteran, having served during WWII in the Pacific Theater in the 4th Marines. He was wounded on Iwo Jima, from which he received a Purple Heart medal. He was a member of the Association of Survivors World War II Parachute Units of the US Marine Corps. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, William David; a grandson; six sisters; and a brother. He is survived by his wife, Jovita (Aleta) Sharp of the home, whom he married May 20, 1996; his children, Frederick James (& Josie) of Baguio City, Philippines, Gregory Allen of Indiana, and Robin Kim (& Monica) of Bellevue; ten grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Family and friends may call on Wednesday (April 6, 2011) from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. Burial will be at Pisgah Cemetery, with military graveside services conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council.
