Gary retired from Ametek/March Electric and Quanex. He had worked as a shipping/receiving supervisor. Later, he enjoyed working part-time for Dunning Motors driving cars and delivering parts around the area. Gary enjoyed his service to the Republican Party over the years and his volunteer job at Salt Fork Golf Course the past several years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two daughters, Jennifer Dee and Emma Elaine; and three brothers, Don, Bill, and Larry Carpenter. He is survived by his wife of forty-six years, Myrle (Watson) Carpenter, whom he married January 13, 1968; two sons, Gary David (Leslie) Carpenter of Summersville, WV and Joshua Jay (Catherine) Carpenter of Byesville; two brothers, Kenny (Connie) Carpenter of Cambridge and Ronnie (Linda) Carpenter of Quaker City; a sister, Nancy (Bill) Perkins of Navarre; and five grandchildren, Alexis Joy, Alyssa Faith, Annalise Hope, Andrew David Theodore, and Jayla Bliss. And those also to be blessed by his memories are his nieces, nephews, cousins, Myrle's family, his church family, his many friends, and his golf buddies. Visitation will be held Sunday from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where funeral services will be held Monday (December 15, 2014) at 11 a.m. with Pastor Dale McCallister and Pastor Chris Brown officiating.
