Gary D. Rogers, 63, of Salesville, died peacefully at his home surrounded by his family and friends on Thursday (July 22, 2010). He was born January 31, 1947 in New Concord, son of the late Walter Carr Rogers and Margaret June (Dowler) Rogers. Mr. Rogers was a heavy equipment operator for Valley Mining of Dennison for many years. He was a 1965 graduate of Garaway High School. Mr. Rogers was a US Navy veteran, having served during the Vietnam War with the SeaBees. He was a member of the Byesville VFW Post #3760. He was Protestant by faith. He is survived by his wife, Janice (Beard) Rogers of the home, whom he married June 22, 1968; two daughters, Carla (& Lee) Scott of Salesville and Karen Rogers of Salesville; a brother, Jim (& Arletha Hayes) Rogers of Kimbolton; a sister, Nancy (& Donald) McConnell of Quaker City; five grandsons, Tyler Allen Eschbaugh, Ricky Lee Lynn, Roger Tyler Scott, Austin Dakota Scott and Anthony Dean Scott; and several nieces & nephews. Family and friends may call on Monday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Quaker City, where funeral services will be held on Tuesday (July 27, 2010) at 11 a.m. with Pastor Jeff Eschbaugh and Pastor Bud Hines officiating. Burial will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Sarahsville, with military graveside services. As an expression of sympathy, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Gary's name to one of the following organizations: 1) Hospice of Guernsey, Inc., PO Box 1165, Cambridge OH 43725; or 2) Kidney Cancer Association, 1234 Sherman Avenue, Suite 203, Evanston IL 60202.
