Gene Addy

Gene Addy, 90, of Cambridge, died Monday (October 24, 2016) at her home with her family by her side. She was born April 29, 1926 in Cambridge, daughter of the late John W. Humphrey and Kathryn J. (Johnston) Humphrey. Mrs. Addy worked as a dental hygienist in Akron and Cambridge; served as deputy registrar in Quaker City for years; worked at the Quaker City Bank; was a bookkeeper for Addy Ford of Quaker City; and retired from the Alltel Phone Company. She earned her B.A. from The Ohio State University in 1948 and also earned a dental hygienist degree. She was a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority. Locally, Mrs. Addy was a member of the Wednesday Night Dinner Club. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Addy, who died June 10, 2000. They were married February 27, 1953. Also deceased is a brother, Bob Humphrey. She is survived by two sons, John Charles "Jack" (& Teresa E.) Addy of Hilton Head SC and Robert Brent (& Teresa L.) Addy of Cambridge; four grandchildren, Nathan Jon Addy of Hilton Head SC, Jennifer Kyle (& Will) York of Hahira GA, Katelynn Michele Addy of Cambridge, and Jessica Deen Addy of Cambridge; a great-grandson, Liam Harvey York; a sister-in-law, Cleo McHenry of Cambridge; and many nieces & nephews. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Gene's caregivers (Elaine, Nancy, Carol, Debbie, Christine, and Mary) and to Hospice of Guernsey Inc. Visitation will be held Friday (October 28, 2016) from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. Burial will be at Friends Cemetery, Quaker City. As an expression of sympathy, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Guernsey Inc., PO Box 1165, Cambridge OH 43725.
