Gene C. Barstow, 77, of Cambridge went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday (July 2, 2013). He was born June 9, 1936 in The Plains, son of the late Cecil Barstow and Belva (Casto) Barstow. Gene worked as a supervisor for Firestone Tire & Rubber Company. He also had worked at the former State Hospital and at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center. He later retired from the Guernsey County Department of Job & Family Services. He enjoyed studying the Bible, woodworking, music, and nature. Gene dearly loved his family and friends. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends, but he will never be forgotten. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, June Swope; a brother, Jack Barstow; and a sister-in-law, Jo Barstow. He is survived by his wife, Janet Y. (Ray) Barstow of the home, whom he married December 10, 1955; a son, Gary (& Patsy) Barstow of Pickerington; two brothers, Gerald Barstow of Fort Myers FL and David (& Sandy) Barstow of Stow; a sister, Kay (& Don) Johnston of Green; three grandchildren, Jennifer "My J", Rachel "My Rach", and Matthew "My Chooch"; a sister-in-law, Jackie Barstow; and many special nieces & nephews. Family and friends may call on Saturday (July 6, 2013) from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where funeral services will follow at 4 p.m. with Pastor Steve Leathley officiating.
