George Edward Shaw, 83, of Nashport, died Tuesday (July 21, 2015) at Licking Memorial Hospital, Newark. He was born October 6, 1931 in Pittsburgh PA, son of the late Floyd Shaw and Marguerite (Harmon) Shaw. Mr. Shaw was a US Army veteran, having served for twenty years during both the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He was wounded in action and was awarded the Purple Heart for his service. Mr. Shaw had worked in the maintenance department of Guernsey Memorial Hospital. He was also a foster parent for many years and was named the "Foster Father of the Year" in 1976. He was a member of the New Concord Church of Christ. He was a lifetime member of the VFW. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Michael Shaw; a grandson, Jonathan Conrad; a brother, Dale Shaw; and a sister, Marie Peters. He is survived by his wife, Wilma (Clary) Shaw, whom he married November 16, 1952; two daughters, Martha (& Jeff) Conrad of Desoto TX and Melissa (& Steven) Scott of Nashport; a sister, Susan (& Leroy) Knox of Bentleyville PA; ten grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and several nieces & nephews. Visitation will be held Thursday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where funeral services will be held Friday (July 24, 2015) at 1 p.m. with Evang. Dick Harris officiating and Jeff Conrad assisting. Burial will be at Northwood Cemetery, Cambridge, with military honors conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council. As an expression of sympathy, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association (Central Ohio Chapter), 1379 Dublin Road, Columbus OH 43215.
