Gerald Ward Gray

Gerald "Jerry" Ward Gray, 68, of Winterset, died Sunday (May 19, 2019) at his home.

He was born January 22, 1951 in Cambridge, son of the late Chester Gray and Marjorie Jane (Hallock) Gray.

A 1969 graduate of Madison High School, Jerry spent most of his life involved in the trucking industry. He was an independent truck driver, dispatcher, and owned his own trucking company. As a truck driver he saw more of America than many people ever dream of seeing. One of his favorite trips was hauling tigers to the circus.

Jerry lived many years in Miami, Florida and Minnesota before returning home to Ohio and building a campground in his retirement which he was very proud of.

He was a collector of antique hit and miss engines and more recently coins. He participated in military parades where he drove a 1948 Willys Jeep. He enjoyed operating the tractors and bulldozer around the farm and always kept the bird feeder full in honor of his Mother's love of bird watching.

Jerry was also a member of the Masonic Lodge.

He is survived by his daughter, Angela Gray of Strabane PA; two brothers, Paul Gray of Lore City and David (& Darlene) Gray of Wintersville; a sister, Karen (& Mike) Williams of Folley AL; several nieces and nephews; and the mother of their daughter, Betsy Johnson Weaver of Gnadenhutten.

Memorial visitation hours will be held Friday (May 24, 2019) from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Winterset United Methodist Church, where a memorial service will follow at 3 p.m. with Pastor David Morrow officiating.

Burial will be at Guernsey Memory Gardens, Cambridge, at a later date.

As an expression of sympathy, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Antrim Volunteer Fire Department (20217 Cadiz Road, Freeport OH 43973) or to any Suicide Prevention organization.
