Gerald R. Hendershot, 87, of Cambridge, died Saturday (October 9, 2010) at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center, Cambridge. He was born August 8, 1923 in Cambridge, son of the late Ben Hendershot and Ruth (Bishard) Hendershot. Mr. Hendershot worked at Universal Pottery and later retired in 1984 from Sunstone Ceramic Tile, where he had worked in the maintenance department. He was a member of the Calvary Apostolic Tabernacle. He loved his purple martin birds. He enjoyed fishing and was an avid gardener. Mr. Hendershot was a US Army veteran, having served during WWII. He was highly decorated for his service in Africa and Italy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Wilma, and a twin brother, Harold. He is survived by his wife, Lillian (McManaway) Hendershot of the home, whom he was married to for sixty-five years; a son, Jim (& Francene) Hendershot of Cambridge; a daughter, Karen (& Bill) Huber of Cambridge; two grandsons, James (& Heather) Hendershot of Cambridge and Tommy (& Melissa) Hendershot of Cambridge; five great-grandsons, Cory, Zach, Cody, Marcus, and C.J.; and several nieces & nephews. No calling hours will be observed. No funeral services will be held. In keeping with Gerald's wishes, he will be cremated.
