Gertrude "Gertie" Alma Jane Brown, 76, of Batesville, died Monday (August 12, 2013) at Emerald Pointe Health & Rehab Center, Barnesville. She was born August 20, 1936 in Belmont County, daughter of the late Allen Hayes and Amelia (Steen) Hayes. Ms. Brown worked as a nurse's aide for nine years at the former Cambridge Health Care Center. She was a member of the Woodsfield Eagles Aerie for thirty years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Geneva Leasure and Almeta Morris; two brothers, Gervis Hayes and Kenneth Hayes; and a grandson, Rusty Carpenter. She is survived by a son, Daniel (& Amy) Brown of Cambridge; three daughters, Regina (& Charles) Starr of Barnesville, Lucinda (& Donald) Beckett of Antrim, and Dremmia (& Mike) Winland of Batesville; two sisters-in-law, Generva Hayes and Judy Hayes both of Quaker City; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and many special friends at the Beckett House and at Emerald Pointe. Family and friends may call on Wednesday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Quaker City, where funeral services will be held on Thursday (August 15, 2013) at 1 p.m. with Pastor Bill Pickenpaugh officiating. Burial will be at Batesville Cemetery.
