Gilbert "Gib" Dean Lake

March 9, 1935 — October 18, 2015

Gilbert "Gib" Dean Lake, 80, of Cambridge, died Sunday (October 18, 2015) at his home. He was born March 9, 1935 in Cambridge, son of the late Raymond Lake and Dolores (Dudley) Lake. Mr. Lake had been a foreman with Higgins Construction for many years. Later, he retired after twenty years of service at Red Carpet Health Care Center, where he had been the maintenance supervisor. He enjoyed woodworking and was especially skilled in creating picture frames, jewelry boxes, and cabinets. Mr. Lake was a US Navy veteran, having served during the Korean War. He was a lifetime member of the Byesville VFW Post 3760 and a lifetime member of the Elks. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a nephew, Dale Edwin Sherrard. He is survived by his wife, Darlene (Anderson) Lake, whom he married February 2, 1979; a daughter, Debra Wilhelmsen of Newark; a brother, Ted R. (& Katie) Lake of North Carolina; a sister, Donna (& John R.) Shafer of Cambridge; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces & nephews. Mr. Lake and his wife were the host-parents to several foreign exchange students over the years. Visitation will be held Wednesday (October 21, 2015) from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where funeral services follow at 11 a.m. with Pastor Karen Rawlins officiating. Burial will be at Zion Cemetery, Claysville. As an expression of sympathy, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Guernsey, Inc., PO Box 1165, Cambridge OH 43725.
