Gilbert Ward, 78, of Cambridge, died Tuesday (May 3, 2011) at the Cambridge Health & Rehabilitation Center. He was born March 2, 1933 in Byesville, son of the late Herbert Ward and Goldie (Nelson) Ward-McKinney. Mr. Ward retired from Northwood Cemetery and also retired from Superior Steel. He was a member of the American Legion. Mr. Ward was a US Army veteran, having served during both the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He was also a member of the Army National Guard. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ida Marie (Sickles) Keith-Ward; a sister, Norma Likes; two brothers, Ronald D. McKinney and Raymond Ward; a step-son, Raymond Richard Keith; a grandchild; and a great-grandchild. He is survived by four stepchildren, Tom (& Carol) Keith of Cambridge, Dotty (& John) Eynon of Cambridge, Barbara Smith of Cambridge, and Jo Ellen (& Larry) Childs of Colorado; two brothers, Robert (& Teresa) McKinney of Cambridge and Eugene McKinney of Lowell; two sisters, Shirley (& Robert) Oreske of Florida and Iona (& Ronnie) Scott of Newark; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. No calling hours will be observed. A graveside service will be held Tuesday (May 10, 2011) at 1 p.m. at Guernsey Memory Gardens, with military graveside services conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council. Burial will be at Guernsey Memory Gardens, Cambridge. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made in Gilbert's name to the Guernsey County Veterans Council, PO Box 302, Cambridge OH 43725.
