Glen Ellis Miller

Glen Ellis Miller, 83, of Cambridge, passed away Tuesday (January 13, 2009) at the Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center, Cambridge. He was born on June 1, 1925, in Cambridge, son of the late John Earl Miller and Lela (LaFollette) Miller. Mr. Miller was the founder of Milfair Linoleum & Carpet of Cambridge, operating the business for sixty years. He was a member of the Stop Nine Church of Christ, Byesville, where he was a charter member and currently served as an elder. He was a member of the Gospel Herald Quartet and later, the Decades Quartet. Mr. Miller enjoyed hunting and collecting Indian artifacts. He was a member of the Ohio Archaeological Society, the National Federation of Independent Businesses, the Farm Bureau and the Chamber of Commerce. He attended Buffalo schools. Mr. Miller was a World War II veteran, having served in the Merchant Marines. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Dennis B. Miller; a brother, Forest Miller; and two sisters, Mildred Work and Evelyn Everly. He leaves his wife, Alleen (Mount) Miller of the home, whom he married on July 22, 1951; four sons, Brent (Judy) Miller of Cambridge, Eric (Stephanie) Miller of Little Hocking, Scott (Mary) Miller of Belpre and Grant (Jill) Miller of Xenia; a daughter, Lynn (Ashley) Bettinger of Summerfield; a brother, Flavil (Verna) Miller of Old Washington; a sister, Carmie (Edison) Green of Sebring FL; two sisters-in-law, Paula Mount of Plant City FL and Virgene DeVolld of Zanesville; fifteen grandchildren, Shari (Tom), Bryan (Jenna), Natalie (Clarke), Katrina, Erica, Hillary, Alexis, Garrett, Meridith, Andrew, Abby, Bethany, Chloe, Guiler and Amy; and three great-grandchildren, Devin, Blake and Jackson. Family and friends may call on Friday from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge. Visitation will also be held on Saturday from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. at the Stop Nine Church of Christ, Byesville. Funeral services will be held on Saturday (January 17, 2009) at 1 p.m. at the Stop Nine Church of Christ, Byesville, with Evang. Woody Biggs officiating. Burial will be at Buffalo Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to Ohio Valley University, in care of Guernsey County Stepping Stones, 60330 Southgate Road, Byesville OH 43723.
