H. Allen Cochran, 79, of Cambridge, died Thursday (April 16, 2015) at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center, Cambridge. He was born February 22, 1936 in Cambridge, son of the late Charles A. Cochran and Lena Belle (Dyson) Cochran. Mr. Cochran retired from the Cambridge Police Department, where he had been a detective. He later served as a teacher's aide to the severe behaviorally handicapped at Cambridge Middle School for eleven years. He was a very kind, loving, and wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. He had a quick wit and a wonderful sense of humor. He was a member of Christ Our Light Parish and was actively involved in the church's events throughout the years. He was very devoted to both his church and his family. He was a member of Father Francis Trettle Knights of Columbus Council #1736, where he had served as Past Faithful Navigator and Past Grand Knight of the Fourth Degree Assembly. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. Mr. Cochran was a US Army veteran, having served in the Korean War. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Larry "Bud" Cochran, Jack Cochran, Ronnie Cochran, and Bob Kennedy; and a sister, Joanne Bartolomei. He is survived by his wife, Theresa (Lorenzo) Cochran, whom he married August 19, 1961; a son, Allen "A.C." (& Debbie) Cochran of Hilliard; two daughters, Theresa Cochran of Cambridge and Lisa (& Bob) Satin of Lewis Center; two brothers, George (& Betty Jean) Cochran of Maryland and Phillip (& Joyce) Cochran of Paramus NJ; six grandchildren, Michael Cochran, Shannon (& Abbey) Cochran, Noah Cochran, Ryan Cochran, Julia Satin, and Matthew Satin; two sisters-in-law, Janet Cochran of Columbus and Sally Cochran of Cambridge; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and his dog, Scarlet. Visitation will be held Sunday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where Vigil services will begin at 7 p.m. Knights of Columbus services will also be held. Additional visitation will be held Monday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at St. Benedict Catholic Church, Cambridge. Mass of Christian burial will be held Monday (April 20, 2015) at 11 a.m. at St. Benedict Catholic Church, Cambridge, with Father Robert Borer and Father Paul Hrezo officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Cambridge, with military graveside services conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Christ Our Light Parish or the Christ Our Light School Development Fund, 701 Gomber Avenue, Cambridge OH 43725.
