Hannah Margaret (McCleary Hutchison) Amos, 94, died Tuesday (February 20, 2007) at her home in Cambridge, OH. Mrs. Amos is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sarah Elizabeth (Amos) and Steven L. Ball of Columbus OH; son-in-law, Michael E. Riordan; four grandchildren, Amos Riordan and wife Paula, John M. Riordan and Hannah M. Riordan of Natural Dam AR, and Katherine A. Ball of Columbus OH; three great-grandchildren, Katie, Zachary, and Megan G. Riordan; and several nieces, nephews and extended family members of both the Hutchison and McCleary Families. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Robert Woodrow Amos, Editor and Publisher of The Daily Jeffersonian Co; also preceded in death by her parents, Clayton R. McCleary and Daisy Dell Ferbrache McCleary, and adoptive parents, Alvin C. and Sarah Alice (Warden) Hutchison; a daughter, Margaret A. Riordan; and four siblings, Dr. Paul G. McCleary, George K. McCleary, Charles C. McCleary and Dorothy D. (McCleary) Dugan. Mrs. Amos was born in Cambridge OH on November 25, 1912. Two weeks after Hannah's birth, her mother died and she was reared by her adoptive parents. She graduated from Cambridge High School and Muskingum College, class of 1935, where she was elected its first May Queen, and was a member of the F.A.D. Club. Mrs. Amos was employed by the Cambridge school system for 25 years, where she taught Kindergarten for 22 years at Oakland Elementary School and helped organize the city-wide Kindergarten program. She was a charter member and a former President of the American Association of University Women, Cambridge Branch; charter member of the Cambridge Area Beautification Council, and Friends of the Library. She was also a member of the Guernsey County Children Services Board, and First Families of Guernsey County. Together with her husband, she participated in numerous other civic affairs. Calling hours and viewing will be held Friday (February 23, 2007) from 5 to 8 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, 139 S 9th Street, Cambridge OH. A funeral service will be held at the Unity Presbyterian Church, 130 N 7th Street, Cambridge OH, on Saturday (February 24, 2007) at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. William Johnson and Rev. Dr. Wallace Wilson officiating. Interment at Northwood Cemetery will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, friends may wish to contribute in her memory to the Hospice of Guernsey Inc., P.O. Box 1165, Cambridge OH 43725 or to a charity of their choice.
