Harlen E. Hess, 84, of Cambridge, passed away Tuesday (Sept. 20, 2011) at the Cleveland Clinic. He was born February 26, 1927 in Russell County, VA. and was the son of the late Augustus and Lula (Dye) Hess. Mr. Hess was retired from General Motors in Brook Park after 31 years of service. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed pitching horseshoes. He was also an Army veteran of WWII and a member of Faith Assembly church. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by four brothers and six sisters. He is survived by his wife, Mary Esther (Stiltner) Hess whom he married September 26, 1948; one son Edward Lee (Robin) Hess of Medina; one daughter Wilma (David E.) Roe of Medina; six grandchildren, Rena Ann Maynard, Edward Lee Hess Jr., Amanda Nicole Hess, Adam James Hess, Lisa Marie Roe and David Jason Roe; seven great grandchildren. Calling hours will be Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge where services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday with Rev. Carl Christman officiating. Burial will be in Guernsey Memory Gardens with military services conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council
