Harold E. Lewis, 96, of Salesville, died Wednesday (November 2, 2011) at his home. He was born September 11, 1915 in Blue Creek, son of the late George Blaine Lewis and Mildred (Moore) Lewis. Mr. Lewis was a self-employed engineer. He was a 1937 graduate of Purdue University and an alumni of Purdue University. Mr. Lewis was a US Army veteran, having served during World War II. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha Marie (VanPeeren) Lewis, who died July 25, 2008. They were married April 11, 1942. Also deceased are a daughter, Terry Lewis; a brother, Paul Lewis; and a sister, Agnes Gowdy. He is survived by two sons, Tom (& Denise) Lewis of Salesville and Blaine (& Sharon) Lewis of Painesville; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Family and friends may call on Monday (November 7, 2011) from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Quaker City. Graveside services and burial will follow at the West Union Cemetery, West Union OH (Adams County).
