Harry S. McCleary, 77, of Dresden, passed away Friday (February 28, 2014) at his home after a six-month battle with cancer. He was born January 21, 1937 in Birmingham, son of the late Clyde McCleary and Emma (Oliver) McCleary. Mr. McCleary was a self-employed farmer, having operated the family farm with his wife for fifty-three years. He had also worked at the former Cambridge State Hospital. He enjoyed woodworking and carpentry. He served thirty years on the Guernsey County Fair Board. He was also a former 4-H advisor. He was Methodist by faith. Mr. McCleary was a 1954 graduate of Madison High School. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Lynn McCleary, who died in 2013. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Violet (Eddy) McCleary, whom he married June 30, 1956; two daughters, Linda Kay (& Gary) Uhler of Alexandria and Karen Rae (& Bob) Harris of Dresden; two brothers, Larry (& Linda) McCleary of Stillwater and Floyd (& Ruth) McCleary of Warren; a sister, Sharon (& Dale) Ward of Cambridge; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held Tuesday (March 4, 2014) from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. with Pastor Beth Mansperger officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery.
