Helen Alice Cater

Helen Alice Cater, 87, of Cambridge, died Tuesday (April 5, 2011) at the Cambridge Health & Rehabilitation Center. She was born June 25, 1923 in Senecaville, daughter of the late Clifford Saltsgaver and Juel (Riggs) Saltsgaver. Mrs. Cater was a homemaker and she also an office manager at the Common Wealth Savings & Loan for several years. She was a graduate of Senecaville High School and also a graduate of the Cambridge Business College. She married Billy Scott Cater, a Major in the US Army, on June 1, 1946. Mrs. Cater was a member of the Unity Presbyterian Church of Cambridge. She was also a member of the American Cancer Society, Band Boosters, and the Fairdale Bridge Club. She was also a former member of the Mother-Singers and Sweet Adelines. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Billy, who died April 6, 2009; and a sister, Sarah Moore, who died in May of 2001. She is survived by a son, Clifford Scott Cater of Cambridge; a daughter and son-in-law, Sudene (Cater) and Randy Lee Palmer of Broken Arrow OK; two granddaughters, Tiffany Ashley Palmer of Tulsa OK and Jessica Juel Palmer of Broken Arrow OK; a sister, Virginia King of Cambridge; two sisters-in-law, Sarah Cater of Cambridge and Maxine Besancon of Reynoldsburg; nieces & nephews, Martin King of Columbus, Judy King of Cambridge, Sabra Kachelien of Bandon OR, Larry Cater of Cambridge, Rick Cater of Atlanta, Paul Cater of Cambridge and David Cater of Reynoldsburg; special friend and caregiver, Linda Brown of Walhonding; and special friends, Quentin and Mary Knauer, and Ersel Caddes. Family and friends may call on Friday (April 8, 2011) from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where funeral services will follow at 3 p.m. with Pastor Jim Spain officiating. Burial will be at Senecaville Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Helen's name to one of the following organizations: 1) Unity Presbyterian Church, 130 N 7th St, Cambridge OH 43725; 2) Guernsey County Senior Citizens Center, 1022 Carlisle Ave, Cambridge OH 43725; or 3) The Salvation Army, 221 Dewey Ave, Cambridge OH 43725.
