Holly (Harley) Douglas, 88, died Monday (January 18, 2010) at his home with his family by his bedside. He lived on the farm and raised cattle & sheep for many years. He was a long-time resident of the Quaker City area. Harley enlisted in the US Army in September of 1942. He was a rifleman with the 45th Infantry. During WWII, he saw action in North Africa, France, Italy and Germany. He received many citations and decorations during the war, including a European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, four Bronze Stars, Bronze Service Arrowhead Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the Purple Heart Medal. He was wounded in Germany in 1944. He was discharged in 1945. Harley was born August 15, 1921 in Clay WV, son of the late Perry and Delphia (Mays) Douglas. He spent most of his younger years in the Clay area until he entered the service. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Pearl, Mae, Haley and Thelma; his brothers, Edward, Otmer Lee and Orville. He is survived by many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. No calling hours will be observed. A memorial military service will be held in West Virginia at a later date. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made in Harley's name to one of the following organizations: 1) Hospice of Guernsey Inc., PO Box 1165, Cambridge OH 43725, or 2) Cambridge Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2901, 1427 E Wheeling Avenue, Cambridge OH 43725.
