Homer A. Daugherty, 93, of Cambridge and formerly of Spencer WV, died Saturday (November 14, 2009) at his home. He was born June 10, 1916 in Newcomerstown, son of the late Thomas Adkinson Daugherty and Eva (Peoples) Daugherty. He was raised by the late Edith Daugherty. He married Nancy Pearl (Greathouse) on August 1, 1953. Mr. Daugherty retired after thirty-two years as a bus driver for Greyhound and Cambridge-Southern. He was past Post Commander of the American Legion 21 of Spencer WV; a member of the Masonic Moriah Lodge 38 AF&AM of Spencer WV; past Worthy Patron of Wetzel Chapter of Eastern Star 27 of Spencer WV; a member of the Knights Templar & Royal Arch Masons of Ravenswood WV; and a life member of VFW Post 5783. Mr. Daugherty was a 1948 graduate of the Andrews Business College. He attended the Apostolic Tabernacle Church. He was a US Navy veteran, having served during WWII in the South Pacific. His duties included amphibious landing and craft tank work. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He loved spending time with his family. He also enjoyed going on Greyhound bus tours. He loved music (both singing & playing) and was known as a great storyteller. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Pearl (Greathouse) Daugherty, who died June 11, 2001; a daughter, Peggy Conner; a brother, Paul Daugherty; and two great-grandchildren. He is survived by a son, Daniel Daugherty of Cambridge; two daughters, Jean Daugherty of Cambridge and Judith (& Bob) Bishard of Cambridge; twelve grandchildren, Dan Jr., Dave, Dennis, Doug, Joe, Kathie, Stephanie, Denise, Robert Jr., Heidi, Heather and Holly; and thirty-five grandchildren. Family and friends may call on Tuesday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where Masonic and Eastern Star services will begin at 7:15 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday (November 18, 2009) at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Martin Hennessey and Rev. James Dull officiating. Burial will be at Northwood Cemetery, Cambridge, with military graveside services conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council.
