Howard Kenneth "Kenny" Hixson, 92, of Cambridge passed away Monday (June15, 2009) at SORMC. He was born January 21, 1917 in Guernsey County, son of the late Ward V. and Burlena (Marlow) Hixson. Kenny retired in 1980 from the former Cambridge State Hospital and formerly worked at R.C.A. He was an Army veteran of WWII, having served in the 175th Infantry, 29th Division. He was a member of Old Washington United Methodist Church, American Legion, Purple Heart #625, D.A.V., a life member of VFW post #2901, Farm Bureau, Cloverleaf Council and NWTF. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Sara Mae (Finley) Hixson whom he married January 27, 1940 and passed away March 19, 1996; a son, Thomas C. Hixson; two sisters, Elizabeth and Thelma; a son-in-law, Robert Greathouse. He is survived by a son, Paul (Cindy) Hixson of Cambridge; a daughter, Phyllis Greathouse of Parkersburg, WV; six grandchildren, Eric and Mark Greathouse, Regina Hixson, Heidi Salyers, Jason and Jodi Bates; eight great grandchildren; two nieces; and his faithful dog "Buddy". Friends may call on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge where services will be on Friday at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Carol Touvell officiating. Burial will be in Guernsey Memory Gardens. Military services will be conducted by the Guernsey Council Veterans Council.
