Hunter James Sayre, 26, of Cambridge, passed away on Sunday, August 24, 2025, at his home.
Hunter was born May 27, 1999, in Columbus, Ohio, a son of James Sayre and Wendy (Sloniker) Sayre.
Hunter was a Buckeye Trail High School and Mid-East graduate of 2017. He is an alumni of the Buckeye Trail Marching and Concert Band, where over the years he played Trumpet, Baritone, and Euphonium. He was also an alumni member of the Buckeye Trail Track team, as a high pole vaulter. Hunter met his wife, Hayley, in band, and fell in love, heads over heels immediately. They were inseparable from the start, and together for 10 years. He is deeply loved by Hayley and his children. And he deeply loved them.
Hunter worked as a machinist for Miller Machining and a tool tech for Velocity. He enjoyed the outdoors-everything from fishing and hunting, to the many adventures he spent in Scouts. Hunter enjoyed listening to a broad range of music including metal, rock, concert and big band music. Hunter loved Japanese food and anime, Star Wars, video games and spending time with his children. He was a member of Four Mile Hill Church of Cambridge. Hunter was sarcastic, funny, kind, talented human being and will be cherished and missed by many.
Hunter is preceded in death by his maternal grandfather and step-grandmother, Earl and Louise (Conway-) Sloniker.
Hunter is survived by his wife, Hayley (Galloway) Sayre, whom he married on December 12, 2020, his son, Benjamin Sayre, and daughter, Violet Sayre. Hunter is also survived by his mother, Wendy Sayre of Zanesville and his father, James (Crystal) Sayre, of Cambridge. Also left to cherish his memory are his brothers, Aaron Sayre and Tristan Sayre, both of Zanesville, and his sisters Jenna Sayre of Cambridge, and Abigail Sayre of Zanesville. He is also survived by his maternal grandmother, Cherryl Potter and his paternal grandparents, Patric and Brenda Wolf. Hunter is loved and remembered by several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Hunter also leaves behind his father-in-law, Eric Galloway, who was a father and friend and refuge for Hunter, and his mother-in-law, Heather (Brandon) Clipner, who was a mother to him, and many from his in-law family who loved him and embraced him as their own.
Services will be held on Friday, August 29, 2025, at 11 am at Four Mile Hill Church with a celebration of life held afterwards at the fellowship hall.
