Irving Cassius Hall, 89, of West Palm Beach FL and formerly of Quaker City, passed away Monday (February 11, 2013) due to complications caused by a stroke which led to a fall. He was born June 17, 1923 in Quaker City, son of the late Alden Hall (descendant of the founder of Quaker City, John Hall) and Anna Mabel (Edgerton) Hall. His parents were both members of the Society of Friends of the Ohio Yearly Meeting. Irving had a career working for the US Army Corps of Engineers for over thirty years. He first worked as a lockmaster on the Ohio River near Georgetown PA and then the Youghiogheny Dam in Confluence PA where he lived and worked as a supervisor in the maintenance department. He was a graduate of Quaker City High School. Irving served in the US Army Air Corps during World War II in England and was discharged with honors at the end of the war. He enjoyed talking at the yearly folk festival in Quaker City about his life as a Quaker. He also enjoyed farming, hunting, fishing, gardening, and woodworking. He was a member of the American Legion and the Lions Club of Confluence PA. He was very supportive of his church by volunteering his time in many ways, including bible studies, missionary work, Deacon duties, repairs of all kinds, along with financial aid to missionaries. He married Mary Louise Cain on February 24, 1947 in Clinton PA. She passed away just two months before him on December 11, 2012. In addition to his wife and his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Clarence Hall and Herbert Hall; and a sister, Clara Vaal. He is survived by a son, Fred A. Hall of Pisgah Forest NC; a daughter, Martha Landau of West Palm Beach FL; a foster son, William Grimes of Clarksville TN; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Family and friends may call on Monday (February 18, 2013) from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Stillwater Meeting House, Barnesville. Funeral services will be held after the manner of Friends on Monday at 11 a.m. at the Stillwater Meeting House, Barnesville. Burial will be at the Richland Friends Cemetery, Quaker City, with military graveside services conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council. Services will conclude with a luncheon held at the Stillwater Meeting House finishing at 3 p.m.
