Jack Hayes Delancey

October 1, 1957 — January 20, 2017

Jack Hayes DeLancey,  59, passed away at his home in Cambridge on Friday (January 20, 2017). He was born October 1, 1957 in Pittsburgh PA, the oldest of the five children of Alfred and Barbara (Spurpolous) DeLancey.

He grew up in Columbus OH and graduated from Walnut Ridge High School in 1975, where he was active in many areas, especially sports, and was a co-captain of the city league champion football team.  He played football for West Hills College and Cal Poly Panoma, also competing in track and field and studying education.  He coached football at Independence High School in Columbus and at West Hills College.  He also played semi-pro football.

He met his wife Kiki (Nicolozakes) DeLancey in 1982, and they were married on April 25, 1987 at Zoodochos Peghe Greek Orthodox Church in Martins Ferry OH, where they were longtime members. They lived in St. Clairsville and then Cambridge, where Jack was self-employed as a carpenter and building contractor.  He was an entrepreneur and started and ran several small businesses in the area.  In 2002, Jack purchased the Potter Davis building in downtown Cambridge, where he was the proprietor Cool Beans Coffee Bar.  His greatest joy in life was his kids, and he went out of his way to spend time with them daily.  He was a member of the Cambridge Masonic Lodge, and was a Shriner, and a good friend.  He survived earthquakes, floods and life's ups and downs with humor and a strong spirit. He was preceded in death by his mother; a sister, Pamela; and a brother, Jeffery.

Jack is survived by his wife Kiki, of the home; his father, Alfred of Columbus; a son, George of New York NY; a daughter, Kiki Violet DeLancey of Cambridge; a brother, Alfred (& Stori) DeLancey of Pataskala; a sister, Teresa (& Dan) Hieman of Columbus; aunts; an uncle, Harry DeLancey; and several in-laws, cousins and several close friends.  Jack was an unselfish man who routinely put other people ahead of himself.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday (January 24, 2017) from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where Masonic Services will take place at 7:00 p.m., conducted by the Guernsey County Masonic Lodge, #66 F&AM.

Funeral services will be Wednesday (January 25, 2017) at 11 a.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, with Pastor Kirk Gabel officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Northwood Cemetery in Cambridge.
