James Calvert, 59, of Byesville, died Sunday (September 25, 2016) at The Ohio State University Medical Center, Columbus, with his family by his side. He was born June 25, 1957 in Cambridge, son of the late James W. Calvert and Linda (Morris) Calvert Huffstutler. Mr. Calvert had worked as a chef at Cracker Barrel and at the former Cambridge State Hospital. He attended Trinity Baptist Church. He loved sitting on the porch with family and friends, as well as camping out and cooking on the grill. He was a former bowler and an avid fan of the Cleveland Browns. He was a graduate of Cambridge High School. Mr. Calvert was a US Navy veteran. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy (Wallace) Calvert. He is survived by a daughter, Skyler Alexis Calvert of Cambridge; three stepsons, Ray Wallace, Danny Hardy, and Richard Hardy all of Cambridge; two stepdaughters, Melisa (& Andy) Black and Shara (& Rocky) Black all of Cambridge; two brothers, Tim Calvert of Byesville and Vince Calvert of Canton; a sister, Debbie (& Butch) Fulton of Byesville; two stepbrothers; two stepsisters; four stepgrandchildren, Chris Black, Owen Black, Tisha Oilerman, and Lynn Corbin; a stepgreat-grandchild, Cheyanne Oilerman; the mother of his daughter, Kitty; and his pet dog, Buddy Bear. Visitation will be held Thursday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where funeral services will be held Friday (September 30, 2016) at 11 a.m. with Rev. Nancy Parsons officiating. Burial will be at Northwood Cemetery, Cambridge, with military honors conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council.
