James A. Emery

James A Emery, 83, of Batesville, died Wednesday (February 9, 2022) at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV.

He was born June 17, 1938 in Monroe County, son of the late Thomas and Mildred "Dressler" Emery.

He retired from being a coal miner and heavy equipment operator. He was a Christian by faith and served in the army during the Vietnam era.

James was a township trustee for Beaver Township for ten years. He was a member of the Woodsfield VFW and was a Commander of the Batesville American Legion Post 578. He was also a lifelong musician and singer. He played in a bluegrass band called The Cabin Boys.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers Orland and John Emery as well as one sister Doris King.

He is survived by his wife Shelva Jean "Long" Emery of the home who he married on March 4, 1964; by two sons Wayne Emery of Batesville and Garrison (Cristina) Emery of Batesville; one daughter Rhonda (Mark) Huntsman of Batesville; two brothers Raymond (Julie) Emery of Ashland and Larry (Sue) Emery of Woodsfield; two sisters Eldra Smalley of Ashland and Sue (James) Williams of Woodsfield; eight grandchildren; and one great- granddaughter.

Calling hours will be observed on Saturday, February 12, 2022, from 10am till the time of the service at noon. Military graveside with the Guernsey Co. Veterans Council will take place at Batesville Cemetery. Reverend Van Fisher will be officiating. Friends and family are welcome, but due to COVID-19 please take all necessary precautions to ensure your safety and everyone else's should you decide to attend.
