James Victor Gattrell

James Victor Gattrell, 84, of Byesville, died Monday (May 1, 2017) at the Beckett House of New Concord. He was born July 27, 1932 in California, son of the late Chester Worthington Gattrell and Ruth Edna (Watson) Gattrell. Mr. Gattrell had worked at the former State Hospital in the laundry department. He was a handyman and grew up as a farmer. He was a member of the 10 th & Clairmont Church of Christ. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-five years, Norma Jean (Snyder) Gattrell, who died February 16, 2014. He is survived by two sons, Robert Gattrell of Cambridge and Jeffrey Gattrell of Cambridge; one daughter, Vickie Gattrell of Cambridge; a sister, Jean Cowan of Sebring; three grandchildren, Robert M. (& Clarica) Gattrell, James R. (& Dana) Gattrell, and Misty Gattrell; and six great-grandchildren, Bradin, Lillien, Abbigale, Dominik, Issabella, and Christlyn. Visitation will be held Monday (May 8, 2017) from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. with Evang. Woody Biggs officiating. Burial will be at Old Washington Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Genesis Hospice Care, c/o Genesis HealthCare Foundation, 1135 Maple Avenue, Zanesville OH 43701.
