James Albert Harris Jr.

James Albert Harris Jr., 81, of Cambridge, passed away Saturday (May 2, 2020), known as "Jack" to his family and close friends.

Born on January 30, 1939 to the late Mary Harris and James A. Harris Sr., Jack was a devoted member of the St. Paul CME. Anything the church needed, he was there.

He served twenty-three years in the United States Army and retired thereafter.

Jack volunteered in various community organizations he was involved with, including the Local DAV, American Legion, AM VETS, VFW 2901, and the VVA. He also distributed food to the neighborhood from the back of his truck. He once served as President of the NAACP Local Chapter.

He enjoyed participating in Guernsey County Civil War reenactments. He even formed his own marching group in Cambridge called the "Buffalo Soldiers", a group that was based off the black soldiers who fought during the Civil War period.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Sophia Harris; sisters, Belle Clark, Louise Clifford, and Vera Chandler; and his brothers, Llewelyn "Lew" Harris, Lee Harris, and Phil Harris.

Jack is survived by his wife, Fannie Harris; his children, Chris Harris of Cambridge, Michael Harris of Columbus, and Steve Harris of Cambridge; his stepchildren, Joseph Hamilton, Victor Hamilton, Juanita Hamilton, and James "Butch" Hamilton; his sister, Dorothy Cordero of Manhattan NY; his grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Jack was a devoted husband and father. He also enjoyed skating in his spare time.

Jack will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.

No calling hours will be observed.

The family will have a Celebration of Life to honor Jack at a later date.
