James A. Lackey

James A. Lackey, 64, of Cambridge, died Sunday (December 20, 2009) at The Ohio State University Medical Center, Columbus. He was born September 19, 1945 in Cambridge, son of the late Asbury Joseph Lackey and Bernadine (Berg) Lackey. Mr. Lackey retired as Captain of the Cambridge City Police Department, having served from 1971 to 1992. He also worked as an EMT for United Ambulance and a salesman for the former Jefferis Motors. He was a 1963 graduate of Cambridge High School and attended Ohio University-Zanesville as a history major. Mr. Lackey was a US Army veteran, having served his country for eight years. He was a life member of the Cambridge VFW Post 2901 and a member of the Cambridge Eagles Aerie 386. He enjoyed golfing and reading, especially military history books. He was an avid follower of the Cincinnati Bengals. He loved the US Army, the Cambridge City Police Department and his country dearly. He is survived by his wife, Priscilla (Allen) Lackey of the home, whom he married November 29, 1980; a son, James J. (& Melissa) Lackey of Rineyville KY; a daughter, Lisa Marie Morgan of Lima; a step-son, Steve Helton of Cambridge; a step-daughter, Lisa Dawn Choma of Cambridge; two sisters, Betty(& David) Dobson of Columbus and Sandra (& Frank) DeWees of Zanesville; five grandchildren, Phillip Choma, Kylie Choma, Ethan Helton, Gage Morgan and Kellie Morgan; a soon-to-be-born great-grandson; a nephew, Robbie; a niece, Krissy; his mother-in-law, Dodie Callihan of Cambridge; and his pet dachshund, Heidi. Family and friends may call on Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where services will be held on Thursday (December 24, 2009) at 11 a.m. Burial will be at Northwood Cemetery, Cambridge. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to the Guernsey County Pound Partners, PO Box 1384, Cambridge OH 43725.
