James W. Strong, 62, of Cambridge, died Friday (September 19, 2014) at the Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center. He was born August 26, 1952 in Pittsburgh PA, son of the late Thomas Strong and Mary Alice (Gibbs) Strong. Mr. Strong was a lifelong cook. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death a brother, Melvin Strong; and a sister, Thomasina Powell. He is survived by his wife, Iris Payton Strong, whom he married August 29, 2009; three sons, Jermaine 'Nitey' Strong, Sonny Strong, and James Strong, all of Pittsburgh PA; four stepdaughters, Shalanda (& Bruno) Perkins of Columbus, Mea (& Derrick) Williams of Houston TX, Akneca (& Brian) Brumfield of Sacramento CA, and Latoya Best of Cambridge; five brothers, Randy (& Debbie) Strong, Freddie Strong, Lydell Strong, Credell (& Marcia) Strong and William (& Charlene) Strong, all of Pittsburgh PA; three sisters, Bernadette (& Delmar) Tate of Pittsburgh PA, Nan Washington of Pittsburgh PA, and Mary Strong of San Diego CA; twenty-four grandchildren; and many, nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Thursday (September 25, 2014) from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge. In keeping with the family's wishes, no funeral service or burial will take place at this time.
