James T. Voorhies, 69, of Cambridge, died Monday (December 2, 2013) at his home. He was born November 8, 1944 in Knoxville TN, son of the late Clarence Voorhies and Rena Mae (Warwick) Voorhies. Mr. Voorhies was a retired computer consultant for AT&T Bell Labs, Wright-Patterson of Newark, and Cambridge City Schools. He attended Buffalo High School. He enjoyed golfing, computer work, photography, and sports - especially The Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cincinnati Bengals. Mr. Voorhies was a US Air Force veteran, having served during the Vietnam War. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Tonya Lynn Voorhies; a son-in-law, David Johnston; and a brother, Emory David Voorhies who was killed in action during the Vietnam War. He is survived by a son, James Timothy Voorhies of Vermont; two daughters, Melissa Johnston of Cambridge and Shannon (& Joe) Mihalik of Cambridge; his grandchildren, Caleb and Corinne Mihalik, and Meadow, a little girl he thought of as a granddaughter; the mother of his children, Linda Voorhies; and his extended family in Tennessee. Family and friends may call on Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where funeral services will be held on Thursday (December 5, 2013) at 11 a.m. with military honors conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council. Burial will be at Northwood Cemetery at a later date.
