Janet Ruth (Kirkman) Brokaw, 79, of Cambridge, died Monday (August 25, 2014) at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center, Cambridge. She was born December 21, 1934 in Cambridge, daughter of the late Frank Kirkman and Dorothy O. (Thatcher) Kirkman. Mrs. Brokaw worked at the Cambridge VFW Post 2901 for twenty-two years, where she had been a member of the Auxiliary. She was an avid bingo and board game player. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Brokaw, who died July 1, 1989. They were married August 26, 1950. Also deceased is a son, Frank Brokaw; three brothers, Erman "Bob", Robert, and Jerry Kirkman; and two sisters, Mary Lewis and Carol Johnson. She is survived by two sons, Gary (& Benita) Brokaw of Cambridge and Dennis Brokaw of the home; three daughters, Vicki (& John) Devault of Buffalo, Terena (& Gary) Jackson of Cambridge, and Tracy (& Melvin) Brown of Cambridge; two sisters, Dorothy Ames of Cambridge and Donna Deeren of Findlay; eight grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and several nieces & nephews. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where funeral services will be held Wednesday (August 27, 2014) at 11 a.m. with Pastor Sturman Moore officiating. Burial will be at Guernsey Memory Gardens, Cambridge.
