Joanne "GiGi" (Ryan) McMillen, 85, of Cambridge, died Wednesday (December 9, 2015) at the home of her daughter. She was born June 29, 1930 in Lackawanna NY, the only daughter of the late Alva Ryan and Elsie (Myers) Ryan. She was a 1948 graduate of Mount Vernon High School. Mrs. McMillen retired from Cambridge City Schools, where she had served as supervisor of maintenance, transportation, and cafeteria systems for many years. She was an avid sports fan, especially of the Cambridge Bobcats, The Ohio State Buckeyes, and the Bishop Hartley Hawks. In 1988, she was the first woman ever elected to the Cambridge City Council. Mrs. McMillen was an active member of the Faith United Methodist Church. She loved spending time with her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David Edward McMillen, who died October 13, 1998. They were married September 2, 1951. Also deceased is a daughter, Rebecca "Becky" (McMillen) Masters; and a niece, Peggy (Haynes) Touvell. She is survived by her children, Theresa (& Jim) McFarland of Columbus, David R. McMillen of Cambridge, and Kimberly J. McMillen of Cambridge; her grandchildren, David (& Tammy) McMillen of Brunswick, Stephanie D. Knight of Cambridge, Elizabeth Mayoros of Pennsylvania, Sam (& Angie) Masters of Cambridge, Emily J. McMillen of Cambridge, and Sarah McFarland of Columbus; twelve great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Rosemary McMillen Long of Oregon; and a nephew, Larry Touvell of Lore City. Visitation will be held Friday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, and also on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Faith United Methodist Church, Cambridge. Funeral services will be held Saturday (December 12, 2015) at 11 a.m. at Faith United Methodist Church, Cambridge, with Rev. Everett Stoddard and Pastor Ed Warne officiating. Burial will be at Northwood Cemetery, Cambridge. As an expression of sympathy, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the McMillen/Masters Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Cambridge City Schools, 6111 Fairdale Drive, Cambridge OH 43725.
