John Harrison Allman Jr., 89, of Cambridge, died Monday (December 16, 2013) at his home. He was born September 12, 1924 in Belmont County, son of the late John H. Allman Sr. and Myrle (Fisher) Allman. Mr. Allman retired from C & O Railroad after forty-two years of service, where he had been a track inspector. He was a member of American Legion Post 84 and was a former auxiliary patrolman. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, and fishing. He was a fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes, Cincinnati Reds, and also Jimmie Johnson. Mr. Allman was a US Navy veteran, having served in the Pacific Theatre during WWII. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jean (Wiley) Allman, who passed away June 22, 2011. They were married on June 14, 1947. Also deceased is a brother, Bill Allman; and a sister, Betty Fink. He is survived by a son, John C. Allman of Cambridge; a daughter, Janice Frymyer of St. Clairsville; a brother, Fred (& Sandy) Allman of Louisville; two sisters, Geneva McKimmie of Canton and Mary Ellen (& Vic) Harding of Salesville; four grandchildren, Russell (& Kelly) Frymyer of Cambridge, Melissa (& Eric) Gordon of Cambridge, Alyson Frymyer of Cambridge, and Jesse Frymyer of Charleston WV; four great-grandchildren, Hallie Gordon, Haven Gordon, Hunter Gordon, and Russell Frymyer III; two step-great-grandchildren, Karlee Gebhart and Camryn Gebhart; and numerous nieces and nephews. Family and friends may call on Thursday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. and also Friday from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge. Funeral services will be held Friday (December 20, 2013) at 1 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, with Evang. Woody Biggs officiating. Burial will be at Guernsey Memory Gardens, Cambridge, with military graveside services conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council.
