John R. Archer

John R. Archer, 77, of Quaker City (Kennonsburg), died Sunday (August 10, 2008) at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center, Cambridge. He was born on January 2, 1931 in Cambridge, son of the late Maurice Archer and Pauline (Bartlow) Archer. He married Janet Ann Williams on July 25, 1959. Mr. Archer retired from Phillips Plastics, where he had been a press operator. He drove taxi for his Grandpa Bartlow, who operated a taxi service in Cambridge for many years. He loved sports, playing cards and watching western movies. He entertained various groups with his harmonica and by telling jokes. Mr. Archer was a 1950 graduate of Cambridge High School. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served during the Korean Conflict. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Janet Ann (Williams) Archer, who died on November 15, 2004. He leaves a son, Rick (& Cheri) Archer of Senecaville; a brother-in-law, Kenny (& Lena) Williams of Quaker City; a granddaughter, Heather Archer of Senecaville; a grandson, Tom (& Stefanie) Hickman of New Concord; two nephews, Joe (& Connie) Williams and Dwain (& Dawn) Williams both of Quaker City; and a niece, Michelle (& Curtis) Larrick of Quaker City. No calling hours will be observed. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday (August 13, 2008) at 11 a.m. at Friends Cemetery, Quaker City, with Rev. Roger Pittman officiating. Burial will be at Friends Cemetery, Quaker City.
