John E. Cosgrave, 66, of Cambridge, died Friday (April 19, 2013) at his home. He was born April 21, 1946 in Winterset, son of the late Homer Cosgrave and Martha Thelma (Smith) Cosgrave. Mr. Cosgrave was a retired truck driver and heavy equipment operator. He enjoyed carpentry work and was a member of the Cambridge VFW Post 2901. Mr. Cosgrave was a US Army veteran, having served during the Vietnam Era. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Sonny Cosgrave; and three sisters, Betty Leonard, Jean Morris, and Faye Proudfoot. He is survived by his wife, Betty L. (Hackley) Cosgrave, whom he married October 15, 1994; a daughter, Stacy (& Kurt) Gidcumb of Salesville; two step-sons, Gregory (& Esty) Clere of Byesville and Jeffrey (& Denise) Clere of Rochester NY; two step-daughters, Janice (& Jim) White of Canton and Janet Clere of Canton; twelve grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces & nephews, including a special niece, Kelley Weaver. Family and friends may call on Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where funeral services will be held on Wednesday (April 24, 2013) at 11 a.m. with Pastor John Simms officiating. Burial will be at Clearfork Cemetery, with military graveside services conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council.
