John "Hump" J. Harper

John J. "Hump" Harper, 65, of Cambridge passed away Monday (August 13, 2007) at his home after a battle with cancer. He was born on February 23, 1942 in Guernsey County. He was preceded in death by his mother, father and two sisters. He leaves behind his loving wife, Bonnie (Morris) Harper, whom he married on September 17, 1960; along with five children, Jim Harper, John Harper, Laura Harper, Melanie Harper and Ben (Heather) Harper all of Cambridge; three brothers, Art Sayre, Mike (Ethel) Patterson and Joe (Lorie) Patterson all of Cambridge; two sisters, Cindy Campbell of Cambridge and Sherry (Glen) Bates of Norwich; fourteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces & nephews. John was best known by his music as lead singer and lead guitarist for the original Country Cousins Band and for his talents as one of the best plasterers & remodelers in this area. John taught archery and hunter safety courses to many, as well as drywall hanging and finishing for our local vocational school several years ago. He loved hunting and fishing, as well as gun dealing. Anyone that ever had the privilege of meeting Hump will never forget him. Those of you that never met him will never know what a wonderful man he was. He touched a lot of hearts and he will never leave those hearts! He is gone, but never forgotten. Family and friends may call on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where services will be held on Thursday (August 16, 2007) at 1 p.m. with Rev. Donald Glass officiating. Burial will be at Northwood Cemetery.
