John William Martin Christie

d. February 17, 2016

Today, we say good-bye to our baby brother, John William Martin Christie, AKA J.W., Bub (or any variation thereof). To honor his life in the truest way, we are foregoing a standard obituary format and taking an unconventional route, which is the only route he ever knew. Twenty-nine years was not nearly enough; but he had the soul and the heart of a much older, wiser man. He showed empathy and kindness beyond his years coupled with the most infectious laugh that could change the mood in a room. His manners and the way he treated people is such a significant part of his story. Regardless of what was going on in his world, he made it a point to bring some lightness to yours. That is special. That is something every parent would be proud to say about their son, and we say it on behalf of our parents, John William Christie and Vicki (Sapp) Christie, both deceased. John left this world peacefully, passing away in the night due to complications caused by his ongoing battle with brain cancer. He leaves behind the two greatest joys of his life: his daughter whom he loved fiercely, Addison Ann Lynn Christie, and his soulmate and fiance, Misty Stafford. He belonged to a big family, many of whom he was very close with. We, his sisters, Vanessa and Tiffany Christie, and John were a unit, a team, a pack, with a bond that could not and will never be broken. After the passing of our parents, many people stepped into his life and changed it forever; his grandparents whom he lived with, William Sapp and the late Marlene Sapp and his grandmother Rosemary Christie Clemenson. Over the years he received love and support from so many of his Aunts, Uncles, cousins and friends. He had a special bond with many; James Goshen, who was like a brother to him, Ray Nicholson (deceased), Terica Dolan and many others who were like family to him. John took pride in working hard, and demonstrated his work ethic in two of his favorite jobs; managing Cowtown Pizza in Columbus, Ohio, and working at Island Aseptics in Byesville, Ohio. He is a graduate of Meadowbrook High School, where he mostly aggravated the teachers, had a blast with his group of friends, and played some great games of football along the way. Anyone that knew John knew of his love of tattoos, music, sports and history. He had some amazing tattoos, many in tribute to the ones he loved; his parents, his daughter, his fiance and friends he lost along the way. He was eclectic, in all ways, but particularly with his music loving Nirvana, Jimi Hendrix, Johnny Cash, Tupac and Biggie. He was a die-hard Dallas Cowboy fan (even during the ongoing Romo years) and Ohio State fan. Visitation will be held Monday (February 22, 2016) from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. He will be laid to rest next to our parents at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Cambridge, Ohio.
