A wake service will be 3:30 p.m. today (Sunday) at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, for Joseph S. Boncaldo, 83, of Cambridge, who died Thursday (Dec. 11, 2008) at Southeastern Med, Cambridge. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Benedict Catholic Church, Cambridge, with the Rev. Fr. Robert Borer officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Cambridge. The Guernsey County Veterans Council will provide a graveside service. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today (Sunday) at the funeral home. Mr. Boncaldo was born June 3, 1925, in Buffalo, N.Y., son of the late Frank and Mary Boncaldo. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the North Atlantic Theater, and was a life member of VFW Post 2901, Cambridge. He attended the University of Buffalo, N.Y., and was a manufacturing engineer for NCR Corp., Cambridge, where he completed 25 years of service. He was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church. He previously served as president of the senate and finance committees for the church, St. Benedict School and Guernsey County Central High School board of directors. He was a life honorary member of Knights of Columbus Council 1641 and a former Ohio State Knight of the Year. He was preceded in death by his wife, Hilda Penney Boncaldo, whom he married May 26, 1948; and a brother, Germante Boncaldo. He leaves two sons, Paul J. Boncaldo of Akron and David (Tiffany) Boncaldo of Tulsa, Okla.; two daughters, Donna (Vince) Bednarz of Stow and Lynn (Daniel) Bachmann of Cambridge; two sisters, Linda (and the late John) Lakso and Livia (Phillip) Morgante, all of Florida; eight grandchildren, Vincent, Gannon and Bentley Boncaldo, Leann, Brittany and Koby Berger and Zoe and Blade Bachmann; a great-grandchild, Elijah Bailey; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Maxine (Pat) Barriat of Cambridge.
