Joseph M. Latchic, 84, of Cambridge, died Monday (November 23, 2009) at his home. He was born September 6, 1925 in Cambridge, son of the late Joseph Latchic and Elizabeth (Graban) Latchic. Mr. Latchic retired in 1986 from Foote Mineral, where he had been a maintenance worker. He was a 1943 graduate of St. Benedict High School and a member of the St. Benedict Catholic Church. Mr. Latchic was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served in both WWII and the Korean War. He was a life member of the VFW Post 2901 and the American Legion, a past commander of the VFW Post 2901 and the past 5th District commander of the VFW. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Cecelia (Kromi) Latchic, who died in 2001. They were married on June 6, 1946. Also deceased is a sister, Stella Matthews. He is survived by three sons, Jon (& Jonnie-Kay) Latchic of Cambridge, Jim (& Nancy) Latchic of Akron and Bill (& Marsha) Latchic Cambridge; three grandchildren, Jason (& Carley) Latchic of Akron, Jeremy (& Megan) Latchic of Barberton and Jay Latchic of Akron; and a special friend, Isabel. Family and friends may call on Friday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where funeral services will be held on Saturday (November 28, 2009) at 10 a.m. with Father Robert Borer officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Cambridge, with military graveside services conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council. The family wishes to express a special thanks to Hospice of Guernsey for their care of Mr. Latchic.
