Joseph E. Messner, 91, of Cambridge and formerly of Quaker City, passed away Saturday (November 29, 2008) at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center, Cambridge. He was born on December 17, 1916 in Tarrytown NY, son of the late Jacob Messner and Anna (Maharik) Messner. Mr. Messner retired from the Ford Motor Company, where he had been a factory worker. He also operated an antique shop in Quaker City for many years. He enjoyed collecting antiques and going to rummage sales & flea markets. Mr. Messner was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II as a radio operator & translator. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen (Loveall) Messner, who passed away on November 1, 1984; two brothers, John Messner and Jacob Messner; a sister, Mary Whittaker; two nephews; and three nieces, including Barbara Baker - whom Joseph and his wife cared for prior to her death in 2003. He leaves several great-nieces and great-nephews, including Jennifer Cimbala of Valparaiso IN, Kathleen Cimbala of Chicago IL, Kathy Mitchell of Cross Lanes WV, Ronald Whittaker of McKeesport PA, Jerry Whittaker of McKeesport PA, David Mayo of McKeesport PA and John Mayo of North Huntington PA; and numerous great-great-nieces & great-great-nephews. No calling hours will be observed. A time of sharing will be observed at the Cambridge Heights Apartments on Wednesday (December 3, 2008) at 2 p.m. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army or to Goodwill.
