Joseph "Joe" T. Spilker, 70, of Cambridge, died Sunday (December 13, 2009) at the Red Carpet Health Care Center, Cambridge. He was born March 18, 1939 in Cincinnati, son of the late Joseph B. Spilker and Dorothy (Ernst) Spilker Atkinson. Mr. Spilker was the owner and operator of Spilker Surveying since 1976. Prior to starting his own business, he had worked for Cincinnati Gas & Electric. He was a member of the Professional Land Surveyors of Ohio and the Ohio Valley Chapter of Surveyors. Mr. Spilker was a member of the Yeatman Mt. Washington Lodge # 0162 F&AM of Cincinnati; a member of the Scottish Rite, Valley of Cincinnati; a member of the Aladdin Shrine of Columbus and the Kambri Shrine of Cambridge; and a member of the Cambridge Lions Club. He was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church of Cambridge. Mr. Spilker was a US Army veteran, having served for two years in active duty and four years with the National Guard. He is survived by his wife, Shirley (Smith) Spilker of the home; a son, Michael Todd (& Brenda) Spilker and his children, Keely Spilker, Katie Spilker and Shelby Spilker all of Cambridge; and two daughters, Monique Ann (& Charlie) Cornelius and their children, Brandon Cornelius and Cameron Cornelius all of Cambridge; Melody Ann (& Dan) Brown and their children, Nathan Brown and Nicholas Brown all of Pataskala. Family and friends may call on Monday from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where services will be held on Tuesday (December 22, 2009) at 11 a.m. with Rev. David Sperry and Rev. Dr. Terry Litton officiating. Masonic services will be held on Monday at 7:00 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge. Burial will be at Guernsey Memory Gardens, Cambridge, with military graveside services conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to one of the following organizations: (1) Hospice of Guernsey Inc., PO Box 1165, Cambridge OH 43725; or (2) Faith United Methodist Church, 500 S 7th Street, Cambridge OH 43725.
